Discover Financial Services (NYSE: DFS) is a direct banking and payment services company with one of the most recognized brands in U.S. financial services. Since its inception in 1986, the company has become one of the largest card issuers in the United States. The company operates the Discover card, America's cash rewards pioneer, and offers personal and student loans, online savings products, certificates of deposit and money market accounts through its Discover Bank subsidiary.
We find today that Discover cards, while not always as widely accepted, often offer some of the most competitive benefits of any of the credit cards we've seen. They recently rebranded (in November 2012) and slimmed down their credit card offering, centering everything around the Discover It Credit Card. This is a highly competitive rewards offering, with extended low introductory APR and 0% Balance Transfer Fees. That being said, Discover's Travel Rewards and Business Cards, while solid, are not necessarily best in class, and because of the caps on their rewards it may be worth looking at the Chase Ink Business Credit cards or the American Express for Business charge cards.
All in all, while a little different than many of the other cards on Visa and Mastercard, Discover cards can often be some of the most useful and valuable cards in the market - not to mention Discover is ranked #1 in customer loyalty--16 years in a row.
