OPEN Business Gold Rewards Card Review

The American Express OPEN Business Gold Rewards Card is a very competitive entrant in the Business Rewards category.  The standout feature is the fantastic Rewards system, offering 3x points on airfare, in addition to 2x points on purchases in the US for Gas and other select media (advertising).  This makes it a fantastic travel rewards card, as 3x points on airfare is top in the industry, in addition to providing extensive cash back on advertising media.

In addition to the Rewards system, the American Express OPEN Business Gold Rewards Card provides other great American Express benefits, like membership rewards programs, American Express Preferred Seating, Dispute Resolution, and emergency card replacement.  It also has business benefits, like additional employee cards, networking forums, and a year-end summary.

This does come with some caveats, however, including a cap on eligible bonus point of $100,000, a $175 annual fee, and a steep foreign transaction fee of 2.7%.  As these fees are substantially higher than on most other cards, we'd advise cardholders to make sure that they're really dead set on American Express service before paying the extra money - but American Express' success is a testament that most people rightfully think the extra service is worth the extra cost.
