Premier Rewards Gold Card Review

American Express Premier Rewards Gold Card is heavy-hitting rewards charge card for people who plan on spending a significant amount of money with their credit card. You'll probably need good credit to get it. The $175 annual fee - which is waived the first year - is pretty steep. But the rewards are generous: three points per dollar on air travel, two points on gas and groceries, and one point on everything else. Additionally, you can earn 40,000 points by spending over $2,000 in the first three months and spending over $30,000 in your first year of owning the charge card.

On top of the point benefits, the credit card also has fantastic American Express customer service amenities.  These run the gamut (find a full list here) - from travel insurance and 24/7 concierge services, or discounted memberships at Equinox Fitness Clubs, American Express is absolutely the best in the industry for these types of comforts.  To many, the $175 fee is a small amount to pay to know American Express has your back when you're using the charge card.

Finally, this is a charge card, not a credit card. This means you must pay the balance in full every month.  However, if you become eligible, Amex may give you the option to extend payment over time on certain charges. Basically, this is a hefty annual-fee charge card that comes with significant American Express rewards and privileges.  You need to pay your balance every month, but if you plan on spending over $30,000 with the credit card and will be able to pay regularly, the American Express benefits could absolutely be worth it.
